pecunia non olet
money doesn´t stink indeed, but don´t ever sell your soul to people who can only offer you some banknotes. so you should hold in high esteem only to execute orders which neither leave you unhappy nor overreached. the bios of many people working within the field of applied arts are filled with underpaid and/or deadly boring jobs, mainly during the first years.
it´s part of the illustrator´s job to tell the client if he´s losing his way; so you should get rid of advisory-resistent clients as soon as possible... or try to increase your fees drastically for you´ll have to pay your therapist after finishing your work.
but there is a huge amount of clients with taste and a fine sense for self-irony... or who like to get a good, correct advice at the right time. and sometimes it´s okay to work on a lower payment-level for those people if necessary. plus: it will feed your karma :-) !
the following samples are a small selection:
"Money frees you from doing things you dislike. Since I dislike doing nearly everything, money is handy."
Groucho Marx
